Mohonk Mountain House Grateful for Firefighter’s Quick Response
No one wants to hear that there is a fire call anywhere in the Hudson Valley but the call that went out this afternoon for the Mohonk Mountain House had many people at the edge of their seats.
The Mohonk Mountian House is an award-winning world-class resort on the Shawangunk Ridge in New Paltz, New York. Most of the entire structure is made of wood, so this afternoon when the fire call went out that there was a structure fire at the resort multiple fire companies were activated. Social media was flooded with people expressing all kinds of concern for this historic structure.

Both the High Falls and New Paltz fire companies reported to the scene to help the Mohonk Fire Brigade fight the fire. According to one report, other fire companies including Highland, Accord, Bloomington, Modena, Rosendale, Stone Ridge, Tillison, East Kingston, and Kerhonkson were also put on stand-by then apparently some were requested to the scene.

A few other fire companies sat ready at other fire stations with manpower that included the Esopus Fire Department reporting to New Paltz Fire Station. Fortunately, it seems that the teams on site were able to get the fire under control quickly with what appears to be minimal damage considering the possibilities.
What Burned at the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz?
Approximately 2 hours after the call, the Mohonk Mountain House was happy to report that everything was back to normal at the resort. They posted to social media that the fire was minor and quickly contained. They also express gratitude to the local fire departments that headed up the mountain to help the Mohonk Fire Brigade.
The Mohonk Mountain House is most certainly one of the Hudson Valley's most iconic resorts. They are preparing for the Thanksgiving Weekend Holiday which is always popular with guests who stay or those who just go to dine. They also are in the final preparations for their Annual Gingerbread Competition which will be held on December 10, 2023.
