The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that they have issued a massive recall that will affect 26 different brands of eyedrops that have been sold at various stores under the store brand names because of the potential risk of eye infections that could result in partial vision loss or blindness according to the FDA website.

Why are Eyedrops Being Recalled?

According to the FDA, the recall was recommended to the manufacturer of the eyedrops on October 25th, 2023 after agency investigators found insanitary conditions in the manufacturing facility. Investigators also sampled and tested "critical drug production areas in the facility" and received positive bacterial test results from environmental sampling.

What Eyedrops are Being Recalled?

The recall includes specific brands including, Walmart Equate Hydration PF Lubricant Eye Drop 10 mL, Target Up&Up, CVS Health, Rite Aid, Velocity Pharma, and Cardinal Health's Leader and Rugby.

The FDA listed all recalled products online and asked that any consumers or healthcare professionals who have experienced any negative reactions or effects from the products please report them as soon as possible. What to Do If You Have Any Recalled Eyedrops

The FDA recommends that if you do have any of these eyedrops consumers should properly discard them. Walmart, CVS, Rite Aid, and Target are removing the products from their store shelves and websites according to the FDA, but products branded as Leader, Rugby, and Velocity could still be available for purchase in stores and online and should not be purchased.
