Times they are a-changin' around one of the Hudson Valley's biggest tourist towns.

Since the start of 2024, multiple New Paltz eateries and storefronts have either closed their doors or welcomed new businesses. Here's a rundown of the biggest changes around New Paltz so far.

With half the year already behind us, even more businesses have changed as of July including store closures and finally some new news about the Agway.

Brand New Businesses in 2024

With the recent legalization of marijuana and the long-awaited distribution of licensing for businesses to sell cannabis legally, New Paltz saw its very first legal dispensary open in 2024.

Big Gas Dispensary

Taking over the old Stewart's Shop at 76 CHestnut Street on Route 32, Big Gas Dispensary sells locally-grown THC products including edibles, THC-infused seltzers, flower, and more.

The new business also offers a delivery option for its products, making it the first of its kind in the Ulster County area.

While so much has already changed in 2024 around New Paltz, there are more changes pending. For example, news has already spread about the beloved cocktail bar, Huckleberry, announcing its soon closure.

The news caught some by surprise because the business frequently seems full and has tons of fans. There's no exact set closing date for Huckleberry just yet, but for now, they are still open with a reduced food menu. You can still go and enjoy cocktails
