The Rockwell Museum holds the distinction of currently being Upstate New York’s only Smithsonian Affiliate and houses an outstanding collection of Western and Native American art. Although the museum is on the smaller side, it is packed with world-class art that isn’t often found in small towns such as Corning.

The Rockwell Museum was named not after the artists, but after its founders, Bob and Hertha Rockwell. When Mr. and Mrs. Rockwell first showed off their art, it was inside the family department store in downtown Corning. However, interest in their collection grew and the art needed a new home which is how it ended up inside the truly incredible and historic city hall building.

The Rockwell Museum features three floors of artwork, all of which focus on all of the things that helped to shape America into what it is today, and all of the artwork has been made through the eyes and the hands of American artists.

One of the reasons that The Rockwell Museum has been given the honor of being a Smithsonian Affiliate is because of its dedication to various educational programs, including the Kids Rockwell Art Lab which is located just around the corner from the actual museum.

At the Kids Rockwell Art Lab, young people have an opportunity to get hands-on with art all while learning about the people who helped to shape America. There are drawing and building stations, books to read, and more. While there is an admission fee for the Rockwell Museum, admission to the Kids Rockwell Art Lab is free each day for children ages 17 and younger.
