Hudson Valley Officer Found With Large Amount Of Heroin, ‘Intent To Sell’
A law enforcement officer from Orange County is accused of intending to sell heroin.
Michael Leake, 24, of Deerpark, a New York State Corrections Officer who was recently assigned to the New York State Otisville Correctional Facility, was arrested for possessing narcotics with an intent to sell, police say.
The arrest was the result of an investigation by the Town of Deepark and City of Port Jervis Crime Suppression Unit. During a search warrant of Leake’s home, police allegedly found 43 bags of heroin, a scale, and other materials commonly used by drug dealers.
“It is always particularly disappointing when law enforcement officers themselves become involved in the narcotics trade,” Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said.
Leake was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally using drug paraphernalia.
Leake was arraigned in the Town of Deerpark Justice Court remanded to jail on bail of $50,000 cash or $200,000 bond.
