A former inmate at Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill was charged after police say he injured several prison staff members with a wooden cane. Officials say one officer suffered a broken knee, another a broken nose.

New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Wappinger barracks arrested 32-year-old Francisco Calderon for six counts of 2nd-degree assault, a class D felony.

Police say an investigation revealed that Calderon had hit several staff members with a wooden cane in September of 2014. Several correction officers were injured as a result of the assault. One correction officer suffered a fractured knee, another a broken nose.

Calderon was arraigned before the Town of Fishkill Justice Court and returned to the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision pending his next court appearance.
