Hotel And Conference Center Planned For Vassar College Campus

A new hotel and conference center are planned for Vassar College campus but plans still must be approved by the Town of Poughkeepsie Planning Board.

The three-story facility would have 50 rooms with an attached 195 seat conference center along with a restaurant that seats 120. All told the hotel and conference center would have around 48,000 square feet of space.

As part of the project, Williams House must be torn down to make room for a parking lot. Built-in 1924, the house offers significance as an early home for women faculty who up until that point lacked privacy in their quarters. Williams currently houses a number of professors some of which have been there for more than 30 years. The college has plans to find temporary homes for those affected and will construct a number of new units to replace those lost.

The project was originally announced in December of 2018 by Vassar College President Elizabeth Bradley according to The Miscellany News, Vassar's student newspaper. Vassar Inn and Institute as it is being called will be discussed before the Town of Poughkeepsie Planning Board Thursday, January 16th at 5 pm.
