Earthquake Felt in Parts of Hudson Valley, Near Popular Mall
Some Hudson Valley residents felt an earthquake that occurred near the New York State Thruway and next to a popular mall.
Officials confirmed an earthquake was recorded in Rockland County Thursday night. The Lamont-Doherty Cooperative Seismographic Network says the earthquake was a 1.1 on the Richter Scale while the USGS National Earthquake Information Center reported it as a 1.1-magnitude earthquake.
The earthquake occurred in West Nyack, next to the Hackensack River, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The earthquake happened just 0.3 miles from the Palisades Center and not from the New York State Thruway.
Some Lower Hudson Valley residents reported feeling the rumble. However, officials say an earthquake typically has to be bigger for people to feel it.
