Community Repairs Antique Hudson Valley Plane After Crash Landing
A World War I airplane will soon be up and flying in the Hudson Valley again thanks to the generosity of strangers.
WREX in Illinois reported on a heartwarming story about a community that stepped in to help after a local plane was forced to crash land. The plane is a replica of a SPAD VII model plane used during World War I. Recently, the aircraft belonging to the Old Rhinebeck Aerodome in Dutchess County was flying when it ran into trouble and needed to crash land.
The plan wound up at the Poplar Grove Airport in Illinois. Badly damaged, the plan sat there waiting for repairs. That's when the Aerodome emailed the airport to announce that they, unfortunately, didn't have enough funds to get it fixed.
Almost immediately, the airport sprung into action to save the plane. It turns out that airplane enthusiasts are a very tight community. Within twenty minutes, the Old Rinebeck Aerodome received a response from the airport announcing that they would fund the repairs.
The plane is now fixed and is being shipped back to Dutchess County.
