A Bronx man is behind bars for allegedly breaking into a business and stealing a bike that is valued at over $4,000.

On Monday around 2 a.m., the Ellenville Police Department investigated a burglary at BD Bikes on Market Street in the Village of Ellenville. A window was smashed out and a bike worth around $4,000 was taken, police say.

Six hours later, while on routine patrol on Church Street an officer noticed five men loading a bike into the trunk of a car. The bike matched the description of the reported stolen item, authorities say.

All five men were taken to the Ellenville Police Department and for questioning. Following the interviews, police allege that 22-year-old Franklin Crawford III of the Bronx stole the bike.

Crawford was charged with burglary, criminal mischief, and criminal possession of stolen property, all felonies. He was arraigned in Ellenville Court and remanded to Ulster County jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. He's due back in court on Nov 1.
