Breaking: Bus Transporting Hudson Valley Students Hit

A bus transporting 23 Hudson Valley Students was rear-ended Thursday morning. Four students and the driver were taken to the hospital.

Kingston Superintendent Paul Padalino told Hudson Valley Post that a bus transporting Kingston High School students was rear-ended by a car on Frank Scottile Boulevard while stopped at a stop sign.

Four students who complained they bumped their head or didn’t feel right were taken to Health Alliance Hospital Broadway Campus as a precaution. Padalino says the injuries are minor.

The other 19 students were taken to the high school and examined by a school nurse. Their parents are being notified of the accident.

Paladino says the bus was not really damaged. As a precaution, another driver was brought in to drive the bus and remaining students to Kingston High School. The bus driver, 56-year-old Bonnie L. Shields, of Saugerties, was taken to the hospital to be examined, which is standard protocol when a bus driver is involved in an accident.

Town of Ulster Police identified the driver who crashed into the bus as 52-year-old Vincent A. Marchetti, of Kingston. Marchetti was also taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. He was issued a traffic ticket for following too closely

“It’s a fender bender, but on buses with kids moving around it can be dangerous,” said Padalino. “But nothing major, thank goodness.”
