August L. Scagnelli, a Longtime Area Resident, Dies at 76

CARMEL – August L. Scagnelli, 76, an area resident for 44 years, died on May 9, 2017 at Putnam Hospital Center. He previously lived in Queens and Manhattan.

Born in Manhattan on June 12, 1940, he was the son of the late Agostino and Madeline (Guglielmetti) Scagnelli. He had been employed by the New York Police Department for 25 years until his retirement.

August loved the outdoors. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

On February 10, 1962, August married Sandra Luberto Scagnelli who predeceased him on December 21, 2009. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Donna and Thomas Jones of Poughquag, Debra and Michael Squittieri of Stormville, and August and Marie Scagnelli, Jr. of Salt Point; and his grandchildren, Taylor, Thomas, Anthony, and Sofia.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by a funeral service at 7pm.
