Aline D. Manzi, 88, of Millbrook, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at home. She was born to the late Henry and Veronica Delling on November 2, 1927, in Belleville, NJ.
On February 23, 1952 at Holy Trinity Church, Poughkeepsie, Aline married Joseph A. Manzi. Mr. Manzi predeceased her on May 13, 2007.
She earned an AB and MS degrees in Zoology from the University of Miami, with memberships in Delta Zeta sorority and two science honoraries.
She first came to Millbrook as a teacher at Bennett Junior College.
She was employed at Vassar Brothers Hospital, taught at St. Joseph’s School in Millbrook, was chief executive as well as secretary of the Board of Directors of ACT Repertory professional theater company and was the publicity director for the Town of Washington Recreation Commission, each for several years. She was a homemaker most of her life and an active community leader with 22 years in the Dutchess County Girl Scout Council in numerous positions from Board of Directors to troop leader and neighborhood service manager. She was a lector at St. Joseph’s Church, a member of and activities chairman for the Parish Council and coordinated and taught a special education program at St. Joseph’s School; as a charter member of the St. Joseph’s Women’s Guild she served as secretary, and chairman member of several committees; she was one of the founders of the St. Joseph’s Parent Teacher Organization. She was a volunteer with Literacy Volunteers of America, Sharon Audubon Center, Millbrook Summer Youth Theater, the Dutchess Interfaith Council, DARE program of the New York Archdiocese, she was active in several environmental organizations and in temporary community projects. She was also a rock-collecting hobbyist and a member of the Mid-Hudson Gem and Mineral Society and sometimes tutored students in science and math.
Aline will be missed by all. She is survived by her five children, daughters; Margaret Manzi and her husband Andre Maul, Maryanne Manzi, Teresa and her husband James Manlowe; sons, Joseph P. and his wife Lori Manzi and Thomas Manzi; grandchildren, David and Karen Manzi, Richard and Brendan Maul, and Sara and Hailey Manlowe.
There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 26 at 10 AM from St. Joseph’s Church, North Ave., Millbrook. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Aline’s memory to any environmental charity of your choice.
