A Hudson Valley man was arrested after police say he impersonated an officer to obtain drugs.

New York State Police began an investigation into a complaint that 52-year-old Jerry Eberhart, of Plattekill, was impersonating a police officer for some time. Officials say Eberhart dressed as a cop to repeatedly and unlawfully obtain narcotic prescription medication from a Plattekill resident.

Authorities say, Eberhart used the police uniform to intimidate the Plattekill resident into handing over his prescription medication.

On Thursday, Eberhart allegedly unlawfully obtained narcotic prescriptions from the same victim and was found in possession of the unlawfully obtained narcotic prescription pills when he was arrested.

Eberhart was charged with 1st-degree criminal impersonation, 3rd-degree and 4th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and 3 counts of 1st-degree coercion, all felonies.

Eberhart was arraigned in the Town of Plattekill and subsequently remanded to Ulster County Jail without bail. He’s due back in court on April 25.
