In this post, we take a look back at the wild weather of 2018.

Four Hudson Valley counties were impacted by tornadoes in May, one that traveled across the river. Weather officials confirmed tornadoes touched down in Newburgh, Patterson, Kent, and Saugerties. The Ulster County twister then traveled across the Hudson River to Tivoli. Officials also confirmed a macroburst impacted Beacon, East Fishkill, Hopewell Junction, Wappingers and Kent. Macro-bursts can produce as much damage as a tornado, if not more, but the winds move in a straight line.

The storms killed 4 people with ties to the area.

Two people were killed in Newburgh on Tuesday, including an 11-year-old girl from the City of Newburgh. She was killed when a tree landed on top of an SUV. An elderly woman was killed when a tree landed on her car in Rockland County.   A teacher from the Hudson Valley is one of two people who were killed during violent storms in Connecticut

In October, two tornadoes touched down in the lower Hudson Valley. One in Rockland and one in Westchester.

Then in November, forecasters predicted a substantial snow event.  The storm ended up being record-breaking. It hit the area around rush hour and with such intensity that plows couldn't keep up, leaving many to say they experienced the "worst commute ever!"
