Police had been looking for the operator of the vehicle in connection to a larceny investigation.

On August 8,  at 08:33 a.m., Saugerties Police responded to Advance Auto located at 330 Route 212, Saugerties for a report of counterfeit $100 bill.

Following an investigation by police it was established that 36-year-old Michael R. Fay of Catskill had passed a forged $100 bill to purchase merchandise from the store.

On August 21, 2019 at 11:03 p.m., Saugerties Police responded to a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash on West Bridge Street in the Village of Saugerties.

While investigating the crash, the vehicle operator was identified at Michael R. Fay,
whom police had been looking for relative to the larceny involving the use of a counterfeit $100 bill.

Fay was taken into custody and charged with the Felony of Criminal Possession of a forged instrument in the third-degree and the Misdemeanor of Petit Larceny.

Incidental to processing at Saugerties Police Headquarters, Fay was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Saugerties Justice Court.
