
Update: Orange County Man Seriously Injured Following Accident on Thruway
State Police updated the accident that caused massive traffic delays near the Orange and Rockland border on I-87 that seriously injured one local resident.
According to State Police early Tuesday morning a 2015 Dodge Dart was driving south on the New York State Thruway at the Exit 15 ramp going to I-287 south when contact was made with a 2003 International Harvester tractor.
The collision caused the Dodge Dart to exit the left shoulder, strike a guardrail, and overturn before coming to a stop down an embankment.
The driver of the Dodge Dart, Matthew J. Izquierdo, 26, of New Windsor was air lifted to Westchester Medical Center with serious physical injuries.
The operator of the Harvester tractor, 73-year-old Richard A. Taft, of Riverview, Florida was not injured.
According to the New York State Thruway TRANsalert on Twitter the accident caused heavy traffic delays on I-87 South with the left lane of exit 15 blocked
The accident is still under investigation and more information may be released as it becomes available.
