Reminder: It's Snake Season in The Hudson Valley

Yes, we know. The Hudson Valley is filled with different types of wildlife.

But it doesn't hurt to have a nice little reminder about who we share out hometowns with.

Every Wednesday the Department of Environmental Conservation takes to their social media to share some #WildlifeWednesday facts.

This weeks theme was: Snakes. Fun!

They shared on Twitter and Facebook a reminder that timber rattlesnakes are the largest venomous snake that lives in New York. Timber Rattlesnakes are out and about from the end of April until October.

The DEC shares that the timber rattlesnake usually has dens out in the open, facing slopes with rocks or surrounded by hardwood.

According to the Saint Louis Zoo, while timber rattlesnakes are highly venomous, so much so that their venom could kill a human, "there are few reported cases of people being bitten by timber." Timber rattlesnakes are shy and will only attack if threatened.

With the weather changing many Hudson Valley residents are hanging out outside, whether it be hiking or just doing work in their backyard.

Like we said, we expect to see these animals around the HV, we're just reminding you what could be lurking in the pile of rocks your hiking next to.
