Police: Ulster County Couple Sold Drugs to Officers
An Ulster County couple allegedly ended up selling drugs to undercover officers.
Members of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team (URGENT) began investigating narcotic sales in the Esopus area in mid-2016.
During the undercover investigation, 41-year-old John K. Jernigan and 50-year-old Melissa A. Jansen formerly of Ulster Park sold methadone to undercover officers at their current home in Saugerties, police say.
Both were charged third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and fourth-degree conspiracy, all felonies.
Both were held until their arraignment in Ulster County Court on Thursday and returned to Ulster County Jail pending additional proceedings.
The following agencies have members assigned to URGENT: Ulster County Sheriff's Office, Ulster County District Attorney's Office, Town of Woodstock Police, Town of Lloyd Police, Town of Shandaken Police, Ulster County Probation, Town of Plattekill Police, Town of Marlborough Police, Town of New Paltz Police, Village of Ellenville Police and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations.
