One man died and another man was injured in separate motorcycle crashes on the same Orange County road.
Saturday around 1:00 p.m., the Town of Deepark Police Department responded to report of a crash on Route 97 through the Hawk’s Nest area.
Police say an investigation determined that Hwang Shim, 33, of Fort Lee, New Jersey was traveling west when he lost control of his motorcycle during a curve in the road and hit a rock.
The Town of Lumberland Fire Department Ambulance transported him to a landing zone where he was flown to Westchester Medical Center with head and neck injuries.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation but no drugs or alcohol is suspected to be involved.
Around 5:45 p.m. police responded to another crash in the Hawk’s Nest area. The driver, 23-year-old Angel Valer, of Hawthorne, New Jersey, was traveling east when he lost control of his motorcycle during a curve and also hit a rock.
Valer was ejected from the bike. The motorcycle then burst into flames as a result of a ruptured gas tank.
Valer was not burned but he was transported to Bon Secours Hospital in Port Jervis where he died as a result of his injuries.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Authorities say both drivers were wearing helmets.
The Sparrowbush Fire Department assisted at both scenes.
