Man Charged With Strangulation After Girl’s 4AM Call for Help
Town of Poughkeepsie Police Lieutenant Brian Wagner has announced the arrest of 32-year-old Isai Rosado Martinez of Poughkeepsie as a result of a domestic dispute that occurred in the early morning hours of Monday.
According to Lieutenant Wagner, police were summoned to Kelsey Road at 3:51 AM by a 12-year-old girl reporting a fight between two adults in the house. Arriving officers separated a boyfriend and girlfriend, both of whom reside in the apartment. The subsequent investigation according to police revealed that Martinez had assaulted and choked his girlfriend during the altercation. In addition to the young caller, a 6-month-old girl was present at the time of the fight.
Martinez was arrested and arraigned on the felony charge of strangulation along with misdemeanor charges of criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, third-degree assault, unlawful imprisonment and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Town of Poughkeepsie Judge Krakower remanded Martinez to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. The defendant is scheduled to appear in the town's court again today at 4:30 pm. A temporary full stay away order of protection was served on Martinez at the arraignment on behalf of the victim.
