Thanks to the new Major League Baseball collective bargaining agreement, the minimum annual salary an MLB player can receive is now $700,000. Another raise players received was the amount of daily "spending money" they are given for food and gratuities when the team is on a road trip. Consider it an adult allowance. Here's how much baseball players, including the Yankees and Mets, receive in addition to their salary when they head out of town.

Major League Baseball Players Get Money for Meals

The new agreement sheds light on a lot of details that I would have never considered as a sports outsider. Some of the main benefits of the new agreement, which stalled opening day this year, are geared towards younger players.

One item of interest was raising the minimum salary from just over $575,000 to $700,000. Not a bad bump. There was also a new hotel accommodation agreement which we'll get to a little later. But the main benefit that caught my eye was an increase in the daily stipend that players receive when they're traveling with the club.

MLB Player Stipends

It's almost unbelievable, but just six years ago, the 2016 collective bargaining agreement actually lowered the amount players would receive for meals to a mere $30 per day. Sure, professional athletes generally have enough disposable income to pay for a few lunches, but come on. Even I know that isn't enough to cover three meals when you're eating out in a different city. Since 2016, the amount has risen to just over $100 per day, but now it's even higher.

Major League Baseball Player Accommodations

First, all players are promised a luxury hotel room on road trips. They're also promised that they won't have to share their room with another player. Secondly, their daily stipend for meals (if they are not provided by the team) was raised to $117.50 per day, and $34.50 if meals are provided (I guess that money is for souvenirs?). Still not an exorbitant amount (good!) but that should definitely be enough to cover any meals they decide to have outside the clubhouse.

Even though WE don't get a daily food stipend, we might need one to shell out on all the delicious food at Yankee Stadium. Check out some of the all-stars below.
