Joyce Scott Johnson Belton, a resident of Fishkill and formerly of Durham, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord on October 15, 2017 at home with family at the age of 78.
Daughter of the late James and Willie Scott Johnson, Joyce was born April 2, 1939 in Benson, North Carolina. Joyce moved to Durham, NC at the age of 5. Joyce graduated from Hillside High School in 1956, received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1960 and her Masters in Education in 1974, both from North Carolina Central University in Durham NC.
Joyce retired from the Durham County School System after 31 years of dedication to teaching. Joyce received several commendations such as the Gold Eagle Award at North Carolina Central University, the National Excellence Society for Teaching and the National Honor of Teacher of the Year.
Joyce gave her life to Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Wappingers Falls in 2014 and formerly of Peace Missionary Baptist Church in Durham, NC.
Survivors include her children, Roscoe Belton of Daytona, FL, Minnie Belton of Fishkill and Valerie Belton of Fishkill; daughter-in-law , Antoinette Belton of Canton, MI; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 3 pm-3:30 pm at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 2607 South Avenue in Wappingers Falls. A Celebration of Life will follow visitation at 3:30 pm at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in the name of Joyce to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
