John J. Caulfield, a Fishkill resident since 1963, formerly of Queens, NY, Norristown, PA, Tulsa, OK, and Cincinatti, OH, died on Monday, January 1, 2018 at Mount Sinai – Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan. He was 87.

Son of the late James J. and Helena (Counihan) Caulfield, he was born in Queens on December 18, 1930. In 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. At the time of his honorable discharge, he had achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his service, he enrolled in the Academy of Aeronautics (Queens) and earned a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. John later attended Union College (Schenectady) and received a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering. For 30 years, he worked for I.B.M. at their facility in East Fishkill. He retired in 1992 as Advisory Engineer.

He was a member of the V.F.W. Chapter # 1248 in Fishkill and also belonged to the Disabled American Veterans organization at Castle Point. John held federal licenses to operate aircraft and supervise power plant operations. He was a member of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill, where he volunteered as a C.C.D. teacher for many years. He also enjoyed writing and was a published author.

On June 17, 1961, he married Eula Jeanne O’Bryant at Saints Peter & Paul Church in Norwood, OH. Jeanne predeceased him just recently on November 8, 2017.
Survivors include his daughter, Peggy Tierney & her husband Charles of Fishkill; his daughter, Susan Caulfield, of Fishkill; his son, Joseph Caulfield & his wife Danae of North Carolina; his grandchildren, Brittany Burton & her husband Julian, Samuel Caulfield & his fiancé Laura, Caleb Caulfield, Patrick Tierney, Timothy Tierney, and Maggie Tierney; his sister, Mary Gorman & her husband Michael of Nevada; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives & friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, John was also predeceased by three siblings, Hugh J. Caulfield, Helen Moore, and James Caulfield.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 5 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 6 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
