Hudson Valley Man Killed By 'Friend,' Police Say

Police say a Hudson Valley man was fatally shot by his friend while visiting his friend's condo.

On Wednesday, Danbury police made an arrest into the homicide investigation of 33-year-old Jason James Lowry Hoffman. The Brewster man was killed at the Sterling Woods Condominium Complex on Sept. 4.

According to police, Hoffman was visiting a friend at the complex. An autopsy classified his death as a homicide and the cause of death to be a gunshot to the upper torso, police say. A pistol was recovered just feet away from the crime scene.

On Wednesday, David Ramos, a friend of Hoffman’s and resident of the condominium where Hoffman was killed, was taken into custody. Police didn't say how their investigation led to Ramos being identified as the suspect.

Ramos was found in a friend's apartment on Scuppo Road in Danbury, police say.

He was charged with manslaughter, possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to keep prescription drugs in the original container and interfering with the duties of a police officer.

Ramos is currently being held at the Danbury Police Department pending arraignment in Superior Court or the posting of a predetermined court set bond of $250,000. Investigators believe Ramos will face additional charges related to the incident as the court case moves forward and is looking into the possibility of others also facing charges related to the death.
