A Shokan man was charged following a road rage incident in which police say he threatened someone with a weapon.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at the Kingston Barracks arrested 65-year-old Ernest T. Townsend of Shokan for criminal possession of a weapon, a felony and menacing and marijuana possession, misdemeanors.

On Monday, police began an investigation into a road rage incident that occurred in the Town of Olive. During the incident, a man allegedly brandished a firearm at another person.

Police say their investigation led them to believe Townsend was the suspect who waved his gun at another individual. Townsend was also allegedly found in possession of more than eight ounces of marijuana and an illegally possessed pistol.

Townsend was ordered to appear in the Town of Olive Justice Court at a later date.
