Hudson Valley Fire Department Hires First Female Firefighter
A Hudson Valley fire department made history.
Beacon Mayor Randy J. Casale recently appointed, with the consent of the City of Beacon City Council, Kari-Leigh Lahey to the position of firefighter with the City of Beacon Fire Department effective Feb. 27, according to a City of Beacon City Council resolution.
The City of Beacon was awarded a staffing for adequate fire and emergency response (SAFER) Grant in the amount of $537,000 over three years in order to provide financial support in the hiring of three firefighters, officials say.
Lahey and three others were sworn in last Tuesday, according to the Beacon Professional Firefighters - IAFF Local 3490.
Lahey has worked as an administrative assistant and EMT for Mobile Life Support Services, according to Facebook. She becomes the first full-time firefighter hired by the City of Beacon Fire Department. Lahey and two others she was sworn in with will report to the Montour Falls Fire Academy for 11 weeks of training.
