Help Needed After Dog Found Abused, Abandoned in Hudson Valley

Help is needed finding the person responsible for a horrible act of animal cruelty to a Hudson Valley dog. A reward is being offered.

A dog which has been named, “Penny,” was found abandoned in Earlton, a hamlet in the Town of Coxsackie. Penny has a severe case of mange and secondary infections in her skin, officials say.

According to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA, Penny was left on the side of the road on or near Schoharie Turnpike in Earlton. She made her way to a home, and the owners called animal control.

“Due to her condition she’s lost the majority of her hair, and coupled with her compromised health, Penny could’ve easily succumbed to the frigid conditions. Penny is a gentle, sweet dog that deserves a better life than she’s had thus far,” Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA President Ron Perez.

The person or people responsible face multiple animal cruelty charges if found.

A $500 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. Anyone with any information should call the Greene County Sheriff’s Office at (518) 943-3300.

With continued treatment, Penny, a 2-3-year-old female Pitbull, should make a full recovery and will be up for adoption once recovered, officials say.
