Gertrude C. Frei , A Poughkeepsie Resident, Dies at 87
Gertrude C. Frei of the Town of Poughkeepsie entered into rest Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at home. She was 87.
Daughter of the late Blaise and Josefa Diebler Stimpfle, she was born on November 4, 1929 in the Bronx. She married Robert V. Frei on June 2, 1951 in the Bronx; Mr. Frei preceded her in death, passing on June 10, 1984.
Mrs. Frei retired as a sales associate for Sears in Poughkeepsie. She also spent some time as a classroom aide for Sheafe Road Elementary School in Wappingers Falls. When her children were in school, Gertrude was a member of the St. Mary's Mothers' Guild of St. Mary's School, Wappingers Falls. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards and Rummikub with her fellow residents at the Lexington Club. She also attended St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls.
Survivors include her children, Marie Lyons (Michael) of Delmar, Joanne Frei (Vincent) of Germantown, MD, Robert Frei (Patricia) of Wappingers Falls, Jeanine Foscaldi (Louis) of Highland, Joseph Frei (Terri) of Hopewell Junction, and John Frei (Teri) of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Robert and Maxwell Lyons, Neil, Kelli and Laura Frei, Megan, Rachel and Leah Foscaldi, Kara Owczarczak (Thomas), Kevin, Justin and Conor Frei, and Madison, Gehrig and Jonathan Frei; and great-grandchildren, Liliana and Beckett Owczarczak.
She was predeceased by her brother, John Stimpfle.
Family will receive friends on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Gertrude's name to the American Heart Association, 301 Manchester Rd # 105, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
