After a two day sit-in on the House floor we spoke with Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney in an exclusive interview about how the Hudson Valley is being impacted by inaction in Congress.

Maloney, who represents New York's 18th Congressional District, says that he and his fellow Democrats are frustrated with the level of gun violence in our country. Violence in Poughkeepsie and other Hudson Valley areas, he says, is an example of why "moments of silence" aren't enough anymore.

That is why he says he took to the House floor with his fellow Democrats to try and force a vote on gun control.

We asked Rep. Maloney why it seems like nothing ever gets done on either side of the aisle. Even when the House and Senate were controlled by Democrats they were still unable to get any common-sense gun measures that a majority of the country is asking for.

Maloney answered those questions and gives some advice to average, level-headed citizens about what they can do to participate in the process:

What do you think about Maloney's approach to the gun issue? Do you think he and his fellow Democrats are doing enough to work with the Republicans to get things done? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below or on our Facebook page.
