Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower Peaks This Weekend. Will the Hudson Valley See It?
Yet another meteor shower is on the way, and it will peak late Saturday night and into Sunday morning. Of course, the thing we've been facing seeing these sort of events here in New York state is the weather.
We just had the Lyrid meteor shower on April 22. Now, May's only event arrives as the Earth will pass through the debris cloud left by the most well known comet of all; Halley's Comet. However, AccuWeather says this meteor shower will be more prominent in the Southern Hemisphere rather than the Northern Hemisphere. Anywhere north of the equator is expected to see about 10 t 30 meteors per hour.
Some good news though is that there will be a new Moon, which will allow for better viewing, as the best time for meteors will be right before dawn. But back to the potential bad news again. The weather. Hudson Valley Weather is calling for clouds with rain moving in, especially after midnight.
Guess we'll have to wait for the next meteor shower in late July.
