Dorothy J. Stortecky, 91, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on August 27, 1925, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Jacob) Meluch. On October 5, 1947, she married the love of her life Ferdinand (Fred) Stortecky at St. Peter's Church in Poughkeepsie, NY, he predeceased her on October 13, 1999. A lifetime resident of Poughkeepsie, Dorothy worked as the cafeteria manager for Our Lady of Lourdes High School and then completed her career working at the Marist Brothers Residence as their cook before retiring in 1984. Dorothy will be remembered for her love of spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, going to church with her friends who shared the same pew with her weekly, and taking trips to Mohegan Sun. Survivors include Diane Sullivan and her husband Kevin of Hopewell Junction, NY; her son John Stortecky and his wife Susan also of Hopewell Junction, NY, and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by one brother and two sisters. At Dorothy's wish, there will be no visitation. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., 12603, immediately followed with interment in St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie, NY. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made in Dorothy's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Way, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wm.
