Daniel P. Smith, A Wappingers Falls Resident, Dies at 51

Daniel P. Smith of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Thursday, January 5, 2017. He was 51.
Son of Marylyn McDonnell Smith and the late Robert Smith, Dan was born on July 21, 1965 in Beacon. He married the love of his life, Carol Malthaner, on October 15, 1995 at St. Mary's Church in Fishkill. Carol survives at home in Wappingers Falls.
Dan most recently worked for the Wappingers Central School District. He was a loyal Oakland Raiders fan and enjoyed bike riding. He was also a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. Dan was a loving son and a devoted father and husband who will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Smith of Wappingers Falls; his mother, Marylyn Smith of Fishkill; his daughters, Arianna and Danielle Smith of Wappingers Falls; brothers, Bill Prest of Wappingers Falls, and Robert Smith of Fishkill; sisters, Carolyn Sheeran of Fishkill, and Elizabeth Troy of Westport, CT; brothers-in-law, Jim Malthaner of Poughkeepsie, John Malthaner and his wife, Nahuku of Burke, VA, and Bob Malthaner and his wife, Rosie of Fishkill; sister-in-law, Lynn Malthaner of Wallkill; dearest friends, Pat and Carol Costanzo of Fishkill; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Family will receive friends on Monday, January 9, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dan's name to Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park, NY 12538.
