Child Left Unbuckled in Car With Heroin, Needles, Police Say

An Ulster County man is accused of leaving a child unbuckled in a car with heroin and a needle in the car.

On Monday afternoon, Saugerties Police responded to a report a child left in a vehicle.

Arriving officers were told by an employee of Kapsoh Testing Facility that a vehicle that was parked and blocking the driveway of the facility.

Police say the vehicle was running with a small child inside. The child was not in a kid's seat or buckled in. The driver of the car, 32-year-old Eric N. Bremer of Saugerties, was found outside of the car, near the passenger side, with the passenger side door open.

Authorities allege they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from Bremer and the vehicle. Officers also say they noticed a hypodermic needle, marijuana and heroin in the vehicle.

Bremer is also accused of having a hypodermic needle on him.

Bremer was charged with 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanors, and the violation of unlawful possession of marijuana.

Bremer was arraigned in the Town of Saugerties Court and released on his own recognizance following the issuance of a Court Order of Protection Stay Away Order on behalf of the victim.

The child was transported back to Police Headquarters where Child Protective Services was notified and responded to the police department for further investigation.
