Unfortunately, there is some unbearably tragic news to report out of Newtown this morning. Jeremy Richman, the father of Sandy Hook Tragedy victim, Avielle Richman, has reportedly died by suicide.

According to a press release from the Newtown Police Department, officers and the Newtown Ambulance Service responded to the report of an apparent suicide at 45 Main St., which is where Edmond Town Hall is located, at about 7:00 AM Monday morning, March 25.

When police arrived with the paramedics, they found that 49-year-old Jeremy Richman was deceased. The Connecticut Medical Examiner's Office is currently working with police to investigate the cause of death, and while suicide is apparent, police say that they will not be disclosing any other details of Richman's passing. Officers did say, however, that the death does not appear to be suspicious. An autopsy is expected to be completed at some point today.

The NPD says that as the founder of the Avielle Foundation, whose mission has been to "prevent violence and build compassion through brain research, community engagement and education," Jeremy Richman worked at an office within Edmond Town Hall.

On behalf of the Newtown Police Department, Lt. Aaron Bahamonde has issued the following statement:

This is a heartbreaking event for the Richman family and the Newtown Community as a whole. The police department's prayers are with the Richman family right now, and we ask that the family be given privacy in this most difficult time.

All of us here at Townsquare Media of Danbury offer our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Jeremy Richman and all those affected by his passing. May he rest in peace.
