If you are heading on the roads it's a good idea to avoid the Tappan Zee Bridge. A major accident is causing massive traffic delays, with all or most lanes of travel shutdown.

State Police are investigating a tractor-trailer rollover accident carrying scrap metal heading north on the Tappan Zee Bridge. The accident occured shortly before 9:00 a.m. debris from the accident landed on both sides of the bridge.

The accident resulted in all lanes of travel, northbound and southbound, to be closed for a short period of time.

As of this writing two lanes on the southbound side have been reopened. The northbound lanes are all still closed to traffic.

Thruway Maintenance and the Tow Truck are working to get the northbound portion of the roadway opened as quickly as possible.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured. State Police have not reported any injuries to any other drivers.
