'Avengers: Endgame' Scenes Were Secretly Filmed in Dutchess

If you thought some scenes in Avengers: Endgame looked familiar, you were right.

The biggest blockbuster of the year continues to set box office records as fans flock to the theaters to see the final installment in the Avengers saga. While we won't dare spoil any of the storylines for you, we can reveal that one of the pivotal scenes takes place right here in the Hudson Valley.

In March of last year, the Hudson Valley Film Commission was approached by Marvel. The organization was asked to help with top-secret filming for the sequel of Infinity War. In order to keep people from knowing what was going on, the movie was given the fake name Mary Lou Part 2.

According to the Hudson Valley Film Commission, they were tasked with finding open fields with hills and terrain that could be used as a battlefield in the new film. After suggesting eight different properties in and around the Hudson Valley, Marvel finally settled on Mills Mansion. The Staatsburgh site was chosen because of the unique sightlines and terrain of the grounds. The train line also cuts off the property from the river, something the filmmakers thought was essential for the scene.

While most of the filming was done in the Atlanta area, IMAX cameras were brought in to capture sweeping shots of Mills Mansion. Helicopters were used to film the "battleground" and boats on the river shot the scene facing up towards the mansion. While none of the cast was on hand for the filming, the visual effects crew took over the area for several days in June.

According to the production notes, the weather was perfect for the shoot, and additional scenery was also shot at an Esopus property near the Black Creek Preserve in Ulster County.
