'No. 1 Hot Dog in the Country' Found in the Lower Hudson Valley

A beloved eatery in the Hudson Valley is turning 100.

Walter's Hot Dogs began serving customers in the Hudson Valley in 1919 in Mamaroneck. The Palmer Avenue hot dog stand, which opened a few years later, is now a nationally registered historical landmark.

According to the companies website, Walter's "world-famous" hot dogs are made with an "exclusive blend of beef, pork and veal." The hot dogs are spilt down the middle and grilled in a "secret sauce." The hot dog is then placed onto a toasted bun with Walter's signature mustard, a blend of choice mustard seeds, relish and spices.

In 2001, Gourmet magazine voted Walter's Hot Dogs the #1 hot dog in the country, according to the companies website.

In October 2017, Walter's Hot Dogs expanded to a second location in Stamford, CT. In August 2018, a third location was opened in White Plains.

This weekend, Walter's Hot Dogs is celebrating its 100th birthday. On Sunday, there will be a hot dog eating contest, live music, a balloon artist and more. Then on Monday, Walter's will sell hot dogs for just $1.
