The Newburgh Deli Where I Spent the 1980s Is for Sale
I just found out that a place where I bought a zillion sandwiches in the 1980s is for sale. Okay, maybe it wasn’t a zillion, but it was a lot. Oh, the memories. It seems sad to me but since the owners are retiring, I guess it’s good news for them.
The place is the Big 3 Deli, and back in the '80s they had a sandwich called the Amo Special, and I'm not sure that's the correct spelling. It was basically a mixed Italian sub, but for some reason, it was the best I’ve ever tasted. So I got it often. Like, all the time. I spent a lot of time and a bit of money there. And even though the food was always delicious, that’s not the only reason I was there so often.
The deli happens to be on North Plank Road in Newburgh, just a very short walk from the Golden Rail Ale House. I spent more time at the Golden Rail than in my own house. And you can work up an appetite when you're drinking and playing pool, you know what I mean?
But even after my days of hanging out at bars, I would stop occasionally at the Big 3 just for a sandwich. I have to admit, it’s been years since I’ve had one, but I can almost taste it when I think about it. And everyone at the deli was always so nice. I wish them the best of luck in their retirement. Think you can keep the tradition going? The Big 3 Deli is for sale, and here’s what you’ll get.

Good luck to the outgoing owners on their retirement. Hopefully, the right buyer will come along soon. We'll keep you posted.
