An early morning crash in Orange County claimed the life of a 17-year-old. 

State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 5:42AM on Wednesday, July 5 on State Route 284 at the intersection of County Route 93 and State Route 284 in the Town of Wawayanda in Orange County.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Toyota RAV4 traveling northbound failed to yield the right of way and struck a 2005 Peterbilt 375 dump truck traveling west on State Route 284.

The operator of the Toyota, a 17-year-old boy from Highland Lake, New Jersey was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The operator of the dump truck was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

The investigation is ongoing.
