Sandra J. Mennerich, a Newburgh Resident, Dies at 72
Sandra J. Mennerich, of the Town of Newburgh, entered into rest on Friday, January 19, 2018. She was 72.
Daughter of the late Evi C. and Julia S. (Kulas) Scholz, she was born on February 25, 1945 in Great Barrington, MA.
Sandee touched so many lives personally and professionally. Family and friends meant the world to her. She was a teacher dedicated to being the best she could be and bringing out the best in her students. She taught history at North Junior High and math at Balmville School, both in the Newburgh School District. After her retirement, Sandee was a consultant for several school districts and colleges. As a teacher at Mount Saint Mary’s College she mentored and inspired the next generation of teachers to excel.
She always encouraged others to strive to be their best and she had great empathy for anyone who was struggling or in need. She treasured her time with family and friends. She was always there to listen to and relish in your stories and plans, give advice, and to bring people together through family birthday parties and parties and outings with her cherished friends.
Sandee was active in the American Legion Auxillary. She served as both Chairman of the Empire State Girls program and Vice President for Post 1420 in Newburgh. She was a volunteer and strong supporter of Safe Homes of Orange County.
In addition to her husband Donald R. Mennerich, Sandra is survived by a son, Donald R. Mennerich of Peekskill, NY; a daughter, Amy Muslim and her husband Salman of Stamford CT; two brothers, Richard Scholz of State College, PA and Craig Scholz and his wife Jenny of Pauling, NY; one sister, Diane Sturdy of Rochester, NY; two grandchildren, Samir and Cyrus Muslim.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at White, Venuto & Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 North Plank Rd. (Rt. 32), Newburgh, NY. A Funeral Service for family and close friends will take place at Our Lady of the Lake Chapel at 10:00am on Thursday, January 25th.
