Ruth E. Goers, a Longtime Area Resident, Dies at 84

FISHKILL – Ruth E. Goers, 84, an area resident for 11 years, died on May 14, 2017 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital. She previously lived in Briarcliff Manor for 42 years.

Born in Brookfield, IL, she was the daughter of the late George and Ruth (Jansson) Lindstrom. She had been employed as a Registered Nurse at St. Agnes Hospital, White Plains for over 20 years. She then worked for Dr. Marano, MD, White Plains before working in private home care.

She had been a member at the Faith Lutheran Brethren Church in Briarcliff Manor for 42 years, and was currently a member at the Fishkill Baptist Church. Ruth’s dedication to the church kept her active in the ministries, especially the garden club, choir, and bible study groups.

In 1952 in Brookfield, IL, Ruth married Walter Goers, who survives at home after 65 years of marriage. She is also survived by her children and their spouses, Kathleen and Fred Bartholomew of Coopersburg, PA, Jeffrey W. and Karen Goers of Vienna, VA, Steven K. and Elena Goers of Glenview, IL, and Jeanine and Richard Marcello of Poughkeepsie; her grandchildren, Aaron, Matthew, Micah, Kelly, David, Joel, Daniel, Tracie, Stephanie, Leah, Michael, Kristen, Darren, and Jason; her great-grandchildren, Ava, Andrew, and Aaron Joseph, her brother, Richard Lindstrom; her sister, Betty Anne Soldwisch and her husband Allan; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 9-11am at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. The funeral service will be on Saturday at 11:30 at the Fishkill Baptist Church, 107 Route 82, Fishkill followed by burial at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
