Newburgh Man Rescued From Roof of Burning Building
A man was rescued from the top of a burning building Saturday afternoon in the City of Newburgh.
On Saturday, October 19, at approximately 4:39 p.m., the City of Newburgh Police Department responded to the area of 44 Farrington Street for a reported structure fire.
Information was given that a person was trapped on the roof and another person was still inside. Dispatch personnel was able to view and verify this incident on the city street cameras.
Officer Colt Genarelli was the first to arrive on the scene and saw the man standing on the ledge of the third floor. Officer Genarelli, along with other officers immediately made entry into the building.
They responded to the second floor but were unable to gain access due to heavy smoke and active fire. Upon leaving the building they managed to take a first-floor resident out of the building.
Officer Genarelli located a fire escape ladder on an adjoining building, climbed it, and helped the man trapped on the roof down to safety.
The City of Newburgh Fire Department then arrived on the scene and took over fighting the fire until it was extinguished.
