Sad news to pass along from the New York State Police.

According to a NYSP press release, Superintendent George P. Beach II announced yesterday the passing of NYSP investigator Paul R. Stuewer.

Stuewer passed away yesterday October 5th from an illness stemming from his assignment at the World Trade Center site in New York City following the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.

After 9/11, Stuewer was assigned to work down in New York City to help with the search and recovery efforts.

Investigator Stuewer started with the State Police on October 1, 1990 and served in Troop K in Poughkeepsie until 2004 when he was prompted to investigator in 2004 and then he was promoted to the permanent rank of Sergeant in 2005.

He served with the State Police for 26 years and is survived by his wife, their children, and his parents.

Funeral arrangements have not been made public as of today but when they are released we will update this story.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Stuewer's family and friends.
