New York Ski Mountain Sets Record For Longest Season

A popular New York ski destination set a state record for the longest season in history on Cinco De Mayo. Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks has been open for 155 days this year, a feat that had never been done in the state according to their website.

In fact, in being open Saturday, they set an additional record for the latest opening. They had never had skiing as late as May 5 before.

Located in Wilmington, N.Y., Whiteface is the fifth highest mountain in the state. There is a lot of history there as the 1980 Winter Olympics used the slopes for the alpine skiing competitions. Whiteface has nearly 90 active trails and has nearly complete snowmaking coverage.
