New York Seeks To Tax Opioid Manufacturers
New York State is trying to combat the cost of opioid addiction treatment.
The Democrat and Chronicle reportd that New York State is still trying to find a way to make opioid manufacturers pay for opioid addiction treatment. Last year, a federal judge ruled against New York's original opioid tax.
According to the Democrat and Chronicle, there are now fears the opioid tax on manufacturers would negatively affect consumers. The fear is that the additional costs manufacturers will have to pay will, in turn, make drugs and pharmaceuticals more expensive for consumers. Governor Andrew Cuomo argues that insurance coverage will shield consumers if costs were to rise.
