Marie Homan, a New Windsor Resident, Dies at 99
Marie Homan entered into rest on Friday, May 19, 2017 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. She was 99 years old and celebrated that birthday just a week before she passed.
Born to Joseph and Mary O'Connor on May 11, 1918 in New York, NY, she was the eldest of four daughters. She leaves her sister, Rita Groenewold, and was predeceased by Margaret McNally and Dorothy Murphy.
Born during WWI and raised during The Great Depression, Marie Eleanor Hayes met and married Fred Homan at the beginning of WWII. They had two children and spent most of their married lives on Long Island.
When her husband, Fred, retired from the Garden City Police, they moved to Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania. They resided there until Fred passed and Marie moved to New Windsor to be near her daughter and family.
Marie is survived by her daughter and husband, Mary Ellen and Tony Colombo, and her son and wife, Fred and Kathie Homan. She has four grandchildren: Tony Colombo, Joanna Colombo-Santise and her husband Dominick Santise, Bryan Homan, and Joshua Homan. The lights of her life were her three great-granddaughters: Anastasia, Evangeline, and Olivia.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd from 5:00 until 8:00PM ending with prayers
at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue in Newburgh, NY. On Wednesday, May 24th, family and friends are invited to join together at 11:00 at Tannersville Union Cemetery in Tannersville, PA for graveside prayers, followed by a luncheon.
