A man pretending to be a disabled motorist, flagged down a truck driver and robbed him following a struggle. 

Troopers in Columbia County were dispatched  by 911 to a robbery of a tractor trailer driver. Authorities converged on the area where they commenced an intense investigation into the incident and search for the suspect.

It was reported that the truck driver was flagged down by an apparent disabled motorist. When the truck driver stopped to assist, the suspect, identified as Jeffrey Treffy, 39 of Sunnyside, NY approached the tractor trailer where a struggle ensued.

The assailant was able to forcible steal the victim's cell phone before fleeing the scene. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) for the vehicle and suspect description was transmitted out to all area law enforcement.

Shortly after the incident, an alert trooper spotted the suspect and vehicle. Treffy was taken into custody and charged with:

  • DWAI Drugs
  • Robbery third-degree - Class D felony

Treffy was arraigned and remanded to Columbia County Jail without bail pending a future court appearance.
