With spring here and summer coming around, we are probably going to see some intense storms. Just last night there were weather warnings all around the Hudson Valley and I noticed on Facebook that many of our listeners love a good thunderstorm and were excited to watch from the safety of their home.

Why not take your love of storms and use it to help the National Weather Service? On Thursday May 11th from 7pm until 9pm, the Nation Weather Service and the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response will be hosting Skywarn training at the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response (352 Creek Road, Hyde Park). Skywarn is a national volunteer network of storm spotters.

Skywarn training will consist of learning the development of a thunderstorm, identifying sever weather features, storm structure and more. Volunteers will be the eyes and ears on the ground and report back to the National Weather Service office in Albany and they are ask to confirm or deny what is being report on the radar. Spotters for this region are to report about weather in eastern New York, southern Vermont, the Berkshires of western Massachusetts and Litchfield County, CT.

If you know someone who would be interested in storm spotting send them to Skyscan pre-registration page. Skyscan training is free, but pre-registration is required.
