We have just stepped into a brand new month and year! As we welcome 2026, we can look ahead at everything we are looking forward to.

It’s been a chilly and snowy winter within New York state. Almost everyone that I have talked to has expressed their excitement for warmer weather and sunshine.

Spring and summer are two of my favorite months to experience. We can truly enjoy ourselves in the warmer weather as we take in the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley. I look forward to warmer temps, sunnier days, flowers blossoming and being outside more around our furry friends!

Until then, we will stay snuggled up in our cozy blankets and heat on in the Hudson Valley.

The Old Farmers Almanac has been something that I have followed for years. We can discover weather predictions, understand folklore sayings and take in planting/gardening advice as well.

The Old Farmers Almanac is always keeping us informed on social media. Recently, they made a post about their Frost Dates Calculator and I was intrigued! This will give us an idea of the last spring frost in our area. Simply, we add in our zip code to this calculator to learn out more.

The Old Farmers Almanac shared that this information is not only helpful for those who are curious about the weather but to others as well. They highlighted,

This information reveals your local growing season length and helps you plan planting, harvesting, and garden care for the upcoming season.”

94.3 Lite FM shared that last year, The Farmers Almanac gave insight into when New York state residents would see the last spring frost of 2025. Areas close to Albany would have been around May 2 while those in Buffalo may have had their last frost at the end of April.

New York City was estimated to have their last spring frost around April 3, 2025 which would be the closest to parts of the Hudson Valley in addition to Albany.

I had fun with this and I hope that you do too! I entered the Poughkeepsie, NY zip code on the Old Farmers Almanacs Frost Date Calculator and this is what I discovered.

The estimated last spring frost of 2026 will be on April 27. If you’re curious, the Old Farmers Almanacs Frost Date Calculator also showed the first fall frost of 2026 which includes October 14.

5 Ways To Know It's Spring In The Hudson Valley

I always know that spring has started when I first hear the sound of spring peepers. This may also consist of flowers start to blossom, the greenery throughout mother nature and return of several wildlife critters.

Others may also agree and share their opinions too.

As we are different people, we notice things differently as well. While someone takes an interest in a woodpecker in the tree on a soothing morning, someone else may notice a lawnmower humming noise during their breakfast.

On WRRV, a Facebook post asked local residents to share their opinion.

The question stated:

"Tell me it’s spring in the Hudson Valley without telling me it’s spring in the Hudson Valley, GO!"

Hudson Valley residents were not shy when it came to answering this question. Let's take a look at ways we can notice that it's spring in the Hudson Valley from all age groups and different locations.
